The Blue Train wins the Silver Award as Runner Up “Favourite Specialist Train Operator” at the exclusive Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards

With all the excitement recently in London, The Blue Train was celebrating a “Silver” of its own last week!

The Blue Train, is proud and delighted to have been announced as Runner Up at the exclusive Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards in the category of “Favourite Specialist Train Operator” at the prestigious awards ceremony hosted at The British Museum on 6 September 2012.  The Blue Train previously won Gold in 2010, and came fifth in 2011.  This year the top prize went to The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Other trains in the Top 10 included The Palace on Wheels, The Maharajas’ Express and Deccan Odyssey in India, The Rocky Mountaineer and Royal Canadian in Canada, The Hiram Bingham in Peru and The Old Patagonian Express in Argentina.  Rovos Rail, the other specialist train in South Africa, won tenth place which is fantastic news for South Africa - playing host to two of the World’s Top 10 trains.

Condé Nast Traveller is a unique and highly respected publication that is largely regarded as the ONLY authority on Travel and Lifestyle in the UK. Its ‘Truth in Travel’ ethos along with their policy of never accepting sponsored press invitations means that the publication never yields to pressure and is a magazine readers trust.

“We are truly delighted with this achievement. The nomination alone in these prestigious awards is a great honour for us”, comments Hanlie Kotze, the Executive Manager of The Blue Train. “We always strive to meet and possibly exceed all our guests’ expectations, every time – all-the-time. It is through great nominations and awards such as the Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel awards that one finds time to do an introspection, reflect and iron out any short-comings or complacency that may have crept in on our service standards, ”, she adds.  “It is therefore fitting for us to extend our sincere congratulations to The Venice Simplon-Orient Express on their great achievement of being the overall winner. Salute”! Hanlie concludes.
