Spotted in the Selous

Africa's Big Cats are enjoying the arrival of large herds into Tanzania's remote Selous Game Reserve following the first rains - and we have the pics to prove it!

Book your stay in one of the two "Serena Luxury Collection" camps today to enjoy prime game viewing in Africa's largest, untamed game reserve!

Following the first rains in Tanzania, the vegetation is now lush and green in the remote Selous Game Reserve and is fast attracting large herds of Wildebeest, Zebra, Gazelle and Buffalo – with hungry predators in tow!

Guests have seen some fantastic “big cat” sightings on the twice daily game drives offered from Mivumo Serena River lodge and Selous Serena Camp - especially around Lake Tagalala, Lake Manze,  Nyamiruba and the Behobeho River – as well as some great elephant sightings.   Below are some of great photos taken last week!

Serena’s Selous river cruises are fantastic for game viewing - especially for ticking off water birds, fish eaters, crocodiles, hippos and leopards in addition to offering the opportunity to enjoy a bit of fishing from the sand banks. Serena has some of the best boats in the reserve, manned by experienced staff and equipped with fishing tackle and refreshments.

Whole day game drives are a MUST! These allow guests to explore the lake areas, stopping mid way for a picnic lunch in the bush and a dip in the hot springs. Having a whole day to enjoy the beauty of the Selous allows an unhurried game experience where specialist guides have time to explain the natural history of the area and its animals, birds and its magnificent trees.

Stay with the name you can trust!  Serena have just won no less than 6 World Travel Awards for their various properties in East and Southern Africa including Africa's Leading Hotel Brand.  Serena offers Selous Serena Camp and Serena Mivumo Rover Lodge in the Selous Game Reserve.

What’s so special about the Selous?

  • A World Heritage Site, located in South East Tanzania
  • The largest concentration of elephant in the world
  • Home to all the members of ‘The Big Five’
  • Exclusive boating safaris in Africa on the Rufiji River
  • Wilderness picnics, bush dinners, sundowners….
  • The ultimate wilderness retreat. A haven for true bush enthusiasts.
  • Breathtakingly beautiful, untouched and untamed… best enjoyed on foot with the Naturalist or by boat
