Etteplan to take over technical documentation for Merivaara’s products
- Technical documentation plays an important role in creating the user experience for Merivaara’s medical equipment.
Etteplan, an engineering company that specializes in industrial engineering services, embedded systems, IoT and technical documentation, and Merivaara, specializing in designing an manufacturing hospital furniture, have signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement concerns outsourcing the technical documentation related to Merivaara’s products to Etteplan.
Etteplan’s and Merivaara’s cooperation in designing hospital products goes back more than a decade. Following the agreement, the cooperation now also includes technical documentation.
Etteplan’s services to Merivaara cover content production for the operating and maintenance manuals for Merivaara’s products and spare part manuals, i.e. technical writing and illustration. The content production makes use of structured documentation, which makes it easier to reuse and update the content. Structured documentation is particularly useful in maintaining Merivaara’s instruction and spare parts manuals, which are published in more than 20 language versions.
Merivaara chose to outsource part of its technical documentation due to the quickening pace of the product development cycle. The solution aims at achieving increased flexibility and the possibility for the company to focus on its core competence, i.e. the design, manufacture and marketing of hospital products. One of the drivers behind the decision was also the desire to improve the end-user experience both in terms of the products and their manuals. High-quality documentation also ensures the correct and safe use of the products.
- It was a natural step for us to expand our good cooperation with Etteplan to technical documentation. Etteplan has world-class expertise, precisely the kind we are looking for for the documentation of our products. We expect our cooperation to lead to an improved user experience and, in addition to other qualitative results, also to bring long-term cost savings thanks to structured documentation, says Jyrki Nieminen, Director of R&D at Merivaara.
- We are thrilled to be expanding our cooperation to technical documentation. We know from experience that the structured documentation method allows us to speed up the production of Merivaara’s technical documentation and to improve the end-user experience,” says Department Manager Terhi Salmisto from Etteplan.
Merivaara’s experience in designing and manufacturing hospital furniture goes back more than 100 years. The company’s operating tables, lights, patient stretchers and hospital and homecare beds are currently being used in more than 120 countries. The products are known for their ease of use, durability and ergonomic design.
