March 3rd 2010 has been nominated as the first ‘International Omega-3 Awareness Day’, in order to educate people about the benefits of getting more Omega-3 into their diet – something that their website www.Omega3Day.com suggests has ‘life-saving qualities’.

Scientific evidence of the health benefits of Omega-3 are so firmly established that American expert Carol A. Locke MD, along with a team of world-renowned doctors, has spearheaded the International Omega-3 Day promoting the positive effect of taking the super nutrient. John Ratey MD, neuroscience expert at Harvard and founding member of this respected team comments, “I tell every patient when I first meet them that they should be doing two things to help them whatever their problems are and that is: exercise daily and take Omega-3. The scientific evidence for both is without question.” Glasgow GP and the driving force behind the new Ideal Omega Blood Test, Dr Tom Gilhooly has welcomed the international initiative. In recent tests carried out, the average levels of Omega-3 in the blood of 26 apparently healthy Scots were woefully inadequate. Gilhooly explains "The results were among the worst levels ever recorded, and could explain Scotland’s poor health record with respect to cardiovascular disease, strokes and inflammatory disorders.” Dr Gilhooly will present these findings at an International conference in Maastricht in May. ‘International Omega-3 Awareness Day is needed to help educate both the healthcare profession and the general public about the proven health benefits of this essential nutrient. It can save lives.’ Omega-3 offers a wide range of health benefits, including improving brain health, boosting the immune system and helping prevent diseases like dementia, diabetes, arthritis, strokes, and heart disease. It also aids in muscle repair after athletic injuries; and helps with depression, ADD, bipolar disorder, and overall mood. The Omega-3 Day team invites people all over the world both within the healthcare profession and in the public to join in this international effort to save and change lives. Locke adds, “People can obtain huge benefits by increasing their intake of Omega-3. The only possible side effect is greater health and a longer life. Nothing else in medicine comes close to this.” For more information on the International Omega-3 Awareness Day visit www.Omega3Day.com ENDS
