LONDON, AUGUST 24 - Globeez, a new type of website designed to service the business and networking needs of African companies and as a gateway for business in Africa, announced today that they are preparing to complete the beta stage of their development and go live.

“Globeez exists to facilitate trade and the free exchange of information throughout African nations and internationally,” said company founder and CEO Elizabeth Filippouli. “We have taken a bold step forward by combining the elements of social networking sites with news and other practical information that targets the needs and interests of African companies and business executives.”

The website is unique, user-friendly and innovates beyond the standard networking or news websites, company officials said. Members get instant access to a wealth of information including up to the minute news stories relevant to the African business landscape, currency exchange rates, weather forecasts and stock market updates.

Members also have the ability to create a social networking profile similar to Facebook, comment on articles and forums on the site and exchange ideas and information with African business executives.

The site will also allow companies to post news about job openings and business opportunities, and members may post their CVs and make them available to recruiters in the African marketplace or globally.

All participants must use their real, verified names and membership is strictly by invitation only.

“We don't want trolls or marginal players in the African business market to use our site to their own advantage,” Filippouli said. “Instead we want to limit this to serious business people with serious ideas to share. We hope to become the place real African professionals come to network, share ideas, creating partnerships and spur innovation. And for investors looking for opportunities in Africa. To be blunt: Farmville is not welcome here.”

Globeez has partnered with several established companies during their beta phase including Reuters, PRNewswire, Rocketseed, International Personell Management, among others.

Filippouli is a well-respected member of the international media and business communities. She has worked as a journalist for Al Jazeera and CNN and as a media and communications consultant for several multinational companies including the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Committee and Coca-Cola.

“With Globeez we are going to streamline the entire process of networking and doing business in Africa,” Filippouli said. “This is the next generation of business communications for the region.”
