HDK exhibits “Almost Complete” at the Milan furniture fair

It is time for the annual furniture fair in Milan, Salone del Mobile. HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts participates with the exhibition "Almost Complete", putting the light on the meeting between the object and the receiver. It is in the meeting that the artefacts begin to communicate and become complete.

“Almost Complete” is created by students from the design and the crafts programmes at HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts. The exhibiting projects are situated in a borderland - waiting to be perceived and find their function.

The complex communication between object and recipient is revealed through the 14 projects’ varied material, form and function. Communication occurs through eyes, hands, ears and actions but also through intuition and perception.

One of the projects is Nihan Aycan’s piece (un)spaced. Nihan Aycan is a student at the Bachelor’s programme in Design (year 3) at HDK, and her work is a 2 meters high, interactive sculpture/installation of acrylic glass and dichroic glass folio. The material has been a great source of inspiration in Nihan’s process.

“The material enticed me to create something big, an architectural furniture, says Nihan Aycan. I explored different ways of creating and erasing space and (un)spaced plays with the sense of privacy through its abstract and graphic forms.”

“By illuminating the reflective, colored material and the corners and angles of the object, visual illusions are created in the room. I wanted to challenge the viewer concerning what is real and what is not graspable,” Nihan Aycan adds.
