Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America championship continues with Rounds 4, 5 and 6

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series will hit the halfway mark of its exciting 2015 season with three rounds of racing action Aug. 21-23 at scenic VIRginia International Raceway, featuring the largest-ever grid.

The North American series, in its third season, will showcase 24 cars competing at the 17-turn, 3.27-mile circuit. VIR is the only track to host the series in all three of its North American seasons.

The weekend will showcase three 50-minute races for competitors in the evocative supercars. This season features multi-class racing for the first time with the introduction of the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo car, powered by a 620-horsepower V10 engine, which was introduced to the North American public last year at VIR.

It joins the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4, the only Lamborghini in the series for the first two seasons.

Round 5 is scheduled for 11:20 a.m. (ET) Saturday, Aug. 22 with Round 4 following at 6:40 p.m. Round 4 was postponed due to heavy rain in late June at Watkins Glen International. The final race of the weekend, Round 6, will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Practice will take place Friday, Aug. 21, with qualifying at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The three rounds at VIRginia International Raceway will kick off a busy month for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship worldwide, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia. Super Trofeo Asia will compete Sept. 5-6 at Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia, and Super Trofeo Europe will complete its next two rounds Sept. 18-20 at Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit in Germany, alongside the Blancpain Endurance Series.

With three races, the weekend at VIRginia International Raceway will be vital in the race for the North American championship and a berth in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final being held in North America for the first time this season.

Competition has proven to be fierce this season in the North American series, with three different overall winners in three races.

Richard Antinucci, winner of Round 1, leads the Pro driver classification with 42 points. Antinucci has found the podium in each of the first three races, driving for O'Gara Motorsport representing Lamborghini Beverly Hills. Antinucci will share the No. 50 Huracán with reigning Super Trofeo Europe champion Edoardo Piscopo.

Antinucci leads reigning driver champion Kevin Conway and his co-driver, Enrique Bernoldi, by only 10 points.

VIR is the home race for Conway, who lives in Cornelius, North Carolina. He enters the VIR weekend with a strong record at the circuit, never finishing below fifth place.

The VIR rounds also will be a home race for North Carolina-based team Change Racing representing Lamborghini Carolinas. Change Racing driver Andy Lally picked up the overall victory in Round 3 in June at Watkins Glen, and teammate Corey Lewis finished first in the Pro-Am category. Lewis is second in the Pro-Am drivers standings with 39 points, just one point behind leader Cedric Sbirrazzuoli.

Sbirrazzuoli won Round 2 in May at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on the opening Super Trofeo weekend. He has placed on the podium in all three races, finishing second and first overall at Laguna Seca, and in third place in the Pro-Am category with co-driver Lawrence DeGeorge in Round 3 at Watkins Glen.

O'Gara Motorsport driver Ryan Ockey leads the Amateur class with 40 points in the No. 89 Lamborghini Huracán. He is locked in tight race with father-son co-drivers Jim and Josh Norman. Just one point separates the top two, with solid, consistent finishes from both entries.

Dylan Murcott leads the Gallardo category for reigning team champions Mitchum Motorsports. Murcott has earned podium finishes in each of the first three races, winning both Rounds 1 and 3.

VIR will play host to multiple new faces in the Super Trofeo series. GMG will make its season debut in the series with James Sofronas and Jeffrey Cheng sharing the No. 88 Huracán representing Lamborghini Newport Beach. Madison Snow will pilot the No. 14 BAD Lambo Racing entry representing Lamborghini Beverly Hills, and Alessandro Bressan and Earl Everall will co-drive for STR in the No. 63 Gallardo representing Lamborghini Dallas.

The Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo adopts the V10 direct injection engine mounted on the road car, managed by a Motec control unit that delivers a maximum output of 620 horsepower. The frame is a hybrid carbon/aluminum construction with modified geometries to house an improved radiator up front and better accommodate the racing gearbox at the rear, which also provides better aerodynamics.

The 570-horsepower, V10 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo is the only four-wheel-drive GT racer in the world and features impressive technology such as paddle shift E-gear transmission, Öhlins race shocks, Brembo brakes, a carbon fiber aerodynamic package that includes a rear wing with 10 adjustable positions, MTA data acquisition, air jacks, center wheel locks and more.

World-class hospitality for competitors and guests also is an important part of the event experience in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. Guests from various Lamborghini dealerships are entertained at the Lamborghini and Blancpain Village, where gourmet food and drinks are provided in an elegant atmosphere worthy of the Lamborghini and Blancpain brand and lifestyle.

Highlights from all three rounds will be televised from 8-9 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, Sept. 9 on CBS Sports Network.

Blancpain - Innovation is our Tradition

Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in the Swiss Jura, Blancpain is the world's oldest watch brand. Loyal to its tradition of innovation, confirmed by countless horological complications invented over the years, this same spirit of inventiveness continues to drive the master-watchmakers of the Manufacture. Determined to move beyond the borders of its legacy, Blancpain is constantly regenerated as it pushes the frontiers of watchmaking in perpetually enhancing its timepieces.

Today, Blancpain pursues its enduring commitment to the renewal of mechanical horology, steadily passing on exceptional expertise from one generation to the next by constant investments in human resources, production technologies and research. This approach is the source of its strength and expresses a long-term vision deliberately running counter to any tendency to seek immediate profit.

From creating components to designing watches, Blancpain is distinguished by its capacity to develop exceptional timepieces and over the past ten years, the Manufacture has introduced no less than 35 new calibres.

This philosophy is conveyed through each of the brand's creations and all its collections: from the classic Villeret to the legendary Fifty Fathoms diver's watch, as well as Grandes Complications from the Le Brassus collection and the sporty L-evolution line - while naturally never forgetting its Women models.
