GSF Car Parts add new Mercedes truck to fleet

GSF Car Parts has taken delivery of a new 2014 Mercedes Actros tractor unit with double-decker trailer, and is also upgrading its 7.5 tonne fleet to Mitsubishi Hybrid Canters, as part of a major plan to further increase operating efficiency.

The Mercedes Actros, which claims class-leading fuel economy, will transport stock from the business’ primary Birmingham storage centre into the Tottenham and Heathrow distribution hubs on a daily basis. The massive storage capacity of the double-decker trailer is expected to yield a number of valuable benefits.

“This truck will help us reduce the overall workload on our 7.5 tonne fleet,” said GSF Managing Director, Jonny West. “We’ve already saved loading and unloading time and reduced reliance on 3PL deliveries too.”

Growing transport volumes had tipped the fleet beyond capacity earlier in 2014. Agency deliveries, typically necessitated at short notice, were becoming regularly required to transport stock left behind by owned-vehicles that were full up. GSF say the costs and complexity of managing this simply escalated to a point where the six figure capital investment became the right long term option.
