A team of eight staff from GSF Car Parts’ Birmingham head office took up the challenge of completing 5km around a Birmingham park to raise over £500 for Cancer Research UK.

In all, around 3,000 participants arrived to find fair weather and picturesque surroundings in Edgbaston’s Cannon Hill Park as the event began at 10am on Sunday 29th June.  The fundraiser was one of over 300 Race for Life events taking place throughout the UK during 2014.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of 5k or 10k women-only fundraising events. Since 1994, over 6 million participants across the UK have raised over around £500 million for charity through Race for Life events. Participants include Jane Tomlinson, whose first fundraising event was a Race for Life in 2001. She went on to raise over £1.75 million for charity before her death in 2007.

The ‘GSF Ladies’ team completed the 2014 Race for Life for the first time after Accounts Assistant Denese Ryan organised the activity. Denese, who’s completed similar events for each of the last four years in memory of a friend, said: “It was a great day thanks to everyone that participated and all the people that watching.

“GSF kindly supported by paying our event entry fees whilst our uniform supplier ISB created our team polo shirts.”
