Unsung hero wins car parts to get life-saving car back on the road

Sandy-based emergency volunteer, Matt Walker has been awarded with £250 worth of free car parts to help him get his Land Rover Discovery responder vehicle back on the road.

Mr Walker won the prize after a friend entered him into a national ‘Get Your Motor Running’ competition, which has been rewarding deserving car owners with free parts.

“The Discovery has over 200,000 miles on the clock, but as a response vehicle it’s invaluable”, said Matt.

As a volunteer blue light responder and 4x4 national responder, Mr Walker’s 20-year-old Discovery attends vehicle breakdowns and major incidents caused by extreme weather conditions.

He added: “It has been off the road for a while, but with the parts I’ve won from GSF it can take its MOT and respond to emergencies again.

“I can also use it to teach my kids how to drive!”

Mr Walker’s prize was part of a £2,000 GSF Car Parts giveaway held in association with its Bedford branch.

James Abbott of Haynes, Bedfordshire, won £1,000 in parts and accessories for his much-loved Vauxhall Corsa B GSI. After stripping the car back, the Corsa has been off the road for the past 2 years as the spiralling cost of the restoration forced James to put it on hold.

Mr Abbott said: “With this win I can replace a lot of the parts and make this a really eye-catching car to take to Vauxhall shows across the country.”

Exam invigilator, Jo Joyner from Towcester, won £250-worth of parts to spend on her racing Beetle, ‘The Green Goblin’. Built back in 1994, the Bug was originally called ‘Super Sonic’ and was sponsored by German & Swedish Car Parts.

Jo has owned the car for the past 7 years, and in that time it has been raced by both her and her husband, Andy.

Branch manager at GSF Car Parts Bedford, Natalie Smith said: “We’re really thrilled that we’ve been given the opportunity to help our local customers out. The Bedford team would like to congratulate everyone who won in this exciting competition.”

GSF Car Parts supply a full range of car parts and accessories for all makes and models.
