As the smartcard revolution gathers pace, Parkeon is celebrating winning the order for its 10,000th Wayfarer200 electronic ticket machine (ETM), the innovative on-bus platform at the heart of major ITSO schemes in Britain. The landmark was celebrated at the EuroBus Expo show at the NEC on November 3, when Parkeon presented the 10,000th Wayfarer200 to John Greaves, Regional Engineering Director for Arriva North East and Arriva Scotland West. Arriva North East has just ordered 600 units for the ITSO North East Smart Ticketing Initiative (NESTI). “The new platform builds on the success of the Wayfarer150,” says Parkeon Transit Managing Director Owen Griffith. “The Wayfarer200 is in live operation across a number of schemes, handling millions of transactions every day. Our relationship with Arriva has been very important to us for many years so we were delighted to receive this prestigious order and look forward to continuing to work closely with Arriva.” The proven Wayfarer200 technology, with built in GPS, WLAN and GPRS, represents a major leap forward for configurability, ease of use and future proofing. Parkeon’s powerful Merlin configuration suite will enable Arriva to respond to market demands and introduce new products as required. “This flexibility was crucial in our decision to opt for this technology,” says John Greaves. “We need to be able to plan for the future with confidence in our investment choices, in the underlying robustness of the technology and in the day-to-day support available. With the Wayfarer200, we confident we have made the right decision in support of our ITSO roll-out programme.” The Wayfarer200 is installed around Britain – but is also in increasing demand overseas, with recent contract wins in Sydney and Canberra, Australia.
