EEF Event in Cambridge Tackles Key Issues UK companies could face fines of millions of pounds and untold damage to reputation if they fall foul of new corruption laws. And according to EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, it’s not just large businesses operating on a global scale that fall within the scope of the bribery legislation – every company must show that it has robust procedures in place to enforce ethical behaviour. To help local companies get to grips with the new law, EEF is running a seminar at its Cambridge area office on May 27 outlining the scope of the legislation, the potential penalties and how to ensure compliance. “Talk of bribery usually conjures up imagery of shady deals done on the international stage, but this new legislation is designed to clean up business at every level from a UK company perspective,” says Nigel Rust from EEF. “It is no longer enough simply to commit to ethical trading, this new legislation requires that robust procedures be put in place…and there are significant penalties for transgression.” At the event, Graham Harraway of Lockheed Martin UK, will talk about what business ethics means to a high profile manufacturer, while John Burbidge-King of Interchange Solutions, will address the pitfalls of non-compliance, the potential penalties and how, with the right procedures in place, ethical trading can be a positive differentiator. The half-day May 27 event at EEF’s Cambridge office in Pampisford, begins at 9.30am and costs £125 for EEF members and £150 for non-members.
