Parkeon has won a major contract with Lille Métropole Urban Community in France to deliver a multi-modal ticketing system capable of handling over 152 million journeys per year. The 21million euro project is the biggest-ever investment in this type of scheme in France and covers metro, tram and bus networks in Lille and across a total of 85 communes. The company's Poole-based engineers will play a key role in the development of one of the most advanced multi-modal public transport systems in Europe. It will enable passengers to use advanced ticketing technologies – including NFC phone, Paypass and contactless smartcards – to access multi-modal travel on two metro lines, two light rail lines and over 100 bus routes in both urban and satellite areas. At the heart of the Lille Metropole system is Parkeon’s Transfolio architecture, which integrates every element of the ticketing process, including fare setting, sales and validation, as well as providing extensive management information and the remote supervision of hardware. In addition to back office systems, Parkeon will be providing 750 electronic ticket machines, 1,200 on-bus remote validators, over 500 station, subway and tram validators – all developed by the company in the UK - plus an extensive range of sales terminals and vending machines. Included within the ticketing system will be eight park and ride areas, strategically located to encourage the use of public transport. Says Alain Combette, Head of Sales for Parkeon in France: “This is a major contract ‘win’ in the face of considerable competition and it proves the value of the Parkeon approach to integrated ticketing technology. “The Lille project is one of the most ambitious in Europe, enabling passengers to benefit from a seamless approach to ticketing not just for multi-modal travel on metro, tram and bus but also across both urban and satellite routes. It is a model for moving from a paper-based system to contactless ticketing technology that is likely to be of interest in many other countries.” www.parkeon.com Ends Media enquiries to: Philip Colley, Harvest Tel: +44 (0)23 9244 9655 / 07785 306378 Notes: Parkeon’s Wayfarer automatic fare collection systems lead the way in integrated fare revenue and back office systems developed for the public transport industry, providing solutions that range from smart card technology and electronic ticketing equipment to CCTV security, GPS and mobile data networks.
