UK TECHNOLOGY DRIVES ANOTHER PARKEON WIN IN AUSTRALIA

Technology developed in the UK by Parkeon is to play a key role in a new generation ticketing system planned for public transport across Sydney. The news builds on Parkeon’s growing list of achievements in Australia, where the company’s UK (Poole)-based operation is already working on mass transit ticketing programmes in Perth and Canberra. The Sydney electronic ticketing system project will see Parkeon’s Wayfarer200 series driver consoles installed on 4,500 buses, along with its back office software suite. The on-vehicle system forms a key element of the scheme put forward by the Pearl Consortium, a Cubic-led partnership that, in addition to Parkeon, also includes one of Australia’s biggest engineering companies - Downer EDI; the country’s largest bank - the Commonwealth Bank of Australia; and a leading provider of pre-paid products to retailers - epay Australia. Says Owen Griffith, Managing Director, Parkeon Transit Ltd: “This latest success underlines the quality of the ticketing technology being developed by our engineers in the UK – and confirms our ability to provide smart ticketing solutions for complex mass transit systems both in the UK and overseas. In Sydney, commuters will use smart cards to travel on ferries, trains and buses, with operators employing ‘tag-on’, ‘tag-off’ technology to apply correct fares. The Sydney announcement follows a series of contract gains for Parkeon in Europe, including winning a major project with Lille Métropole Urban Community in France to develop a multi-modal ticketing system capable of handling over 152 million journeys per year. In Lille, in addition to providing back office systems, Parkeon will be delivering 750 electronic ticket machines, 1,200 on-bus remote validators, over 500 station, subway and tram validators, plus an extensive range of sales terminals and vending machines. www.parkeon.com www.pttc.nsw.gov.au Ends Media enquiries to: Philip Colley, Harvest Tel: +44 (0) 23 9244 9655/ 07785 306378 philip.colley@harvestpr.co.uk Notes to Editors: Parkeon is a key player in urban mobility.
