High Trail Vanoise by Oslo 8-10 July in Val d’Isère

From July 8-10, 2016, trail runners take over the mountain above Val d’Isère for what should prove to be a truly exceptional weekend. The High Trail Vanoise comprises five races for all levels, a chance to experience some of the most beautiful panoramas of the Haute Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys.

THE ROUTES

GRAND PARCOURS, JULY 10, 2016

The Grand Parcours is the Big One, the toughest route of the High Trail Vanoise. First up is the 3653m summit of the Grande Motte– and that’s just for starters. The highly technical 67km trail covers 5400 vertical metres with some extraordinary scenery such as the Grande Sassière and the Vallée Perdue.

Start time: 4am

Entry fee: 65€ before April 29, then 70€ until closing date of July 4, 2016

PETIT PARCOURS, JULY 10, 2016

Don’t be fooled by the ‘little’ in the title. This is still very much the real McCoy, 39km with 3200m of vertical.  Spectacular sections include the Grande Sassière Nature Reserve, the Grand Pissaillas glacier, the 3386m ascent of Aiguille Pers, and the original route of the Lessières tunnel.

Start time: 8.30am

Entry fee: 36€ until April 29, then 40€ until closing date of July 4, 2016.

LES BALCONS DE VAL D’ISÈRE, JULY 9, 2016

This is a gentler route of 18km with 1300m of vertical. It takes you through the hamlet of Le Fornet and on up to the lac de l’Ouillette, a picturesque spot on Solaise. It’s a chance to explore some truly magnificent scenery around Val d’Isère itself.

Start time: 9.30am

Entry fee: 20€ until April 29, then 25€ until closing date of July 4, 2016.

KILOMÈTRE VERTICAL, JULY 8, 2016

The weekend of trail running gets off to a tough start with the ascent against the clock of the notorious Face de Bellevarde. This a highlight of the Skyrunning World Cup, with registered and non-registered runners setting off every 30 seconds up the various paths and pastures, on their way to the top of what in winter is one of the world’s most challenging FIS downhills.

Start time: 5pm

Entry fee: 12€ until April 29, then 15€ until closing date of July 4, 2016.

TRAILS JEUNES, JULY 9, 2016

This one is not open to grown-ups. Children from seven years get their own introduction to trail running.

The course is 1.5km in length with 62m of vertical for 7-9 and 10-11 year-olds and 2.5km with 150m of vertical for 12-14 and 14-15 year-olds.
