Flora Abrahamian, M.D., Specialist in Allergy and Immunology, Joins Staff at Huntington Medical Foundation

(PASADENA,CA–September 7, 2011) — Huntington Medical Foundation announced today that Flora Abrahamian, M.D., a highly trained specialist in allergy and immunology, will be joining its medical staff October 1. She will be located at the HMF office inPasadena.

Dr. Abrahamian received her medical degree from theUniversityofCalifornia,Los Angeles(UCLA)SchoolofMedicineafter attaining her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in biochemistry fromOccidentalCollege. She did her fellowship in allergy and immunology at theUniversityofCalifornia,Irvineand her residency in internal medicine atHarbor-UCLAMedicalCenter.

Prior to joining Huntington Medical Foundation, Dr. Abrahamian was an associate physician in the department of allergy and clinical immunology for Kaiser Permanente inDowney. There she treated both adults and children for common disorders such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema and food allergies. She also diagnosed and treated more complex conditions like hereditary angioedema (a rare but serious problem with the immune system) and common variable im­munodeficiency (a disorder of the immune system).

“There are many misconceptions about allergies, and I love answering patients’ questions and easing their concerns,” she says. “I believe it is very important to educate patients about prevention measures.”

An allergy is a specific reaction to a normally harmless substance such as pollens, dust particles, mold, food, latex rubber, insect venom or medicines. Dr. Abrahamian provides her patients advice on ways to avoid the allergen, prescribes medications that relieve symptoms, and suggests strategies that usually provide varying degrees of relief from allergy symptoms.

Dr. Abrahamian is a member of the American Medical Association; the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. She is also a member of the Armenian American Medical Society of California; the Christian Medical & Dental Association; and the Los Angeles Society of Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology.

A resident ofGlendalesince her teen years, Dr. Abrahamian grew up in a medical family; both of her parents were doctors, and her brother is a radiologist. In addition to English she speaks fluent Armenian and Spanish. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family, volunteer­ing at church, traveling, “experimenting with fashion” and watching her beloved Lakers.

Dr. Abrahamian’s office is located at55 East California Blvd., Suite 204, inPasadena.
