Global IP community to converge in Shanghai next month

IP business leaders from across Asia and the West will come together for the fourth annual IPBC Asia taking place from December 4 to 6 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Shanghai, Pudong, China.

The Chinese patent market has developed at an incredible speed; and with foreign companies and investors increasingly showing interest in buying Chinese patents, and more and more Chinese companies building up their foreign IP assets with a view to expanding overseas, Shanghai was the obvious choice for this year’s IPBC Asia – the must-attend IP event in the region.

“China has become a key pillar of the global IP market over the last few years”, says Jacob Schindler, IAM’s Asia editor. “Recent developments here in licensing and litigation show that this is no longer a jurisdiction that any major patent owner can afford to ignore.”

With simultaneous Chinese-English translation, the two-day conference programme will explore the most important issues facing the IP community today, with key sessions including:

  • Asia’s leading companies reveal their IP nightmares
  • Top 10 mistakes when creating an IP corporate strategy
  • IP deal making
  • Beyond patent licensing
  • SEPs and FRAND term negotiations
  • The emerging patent battleground in China
  • China boot camp: creating an effective IP presence
  • The new US patent litigation reality
  • Risks and opportunities in the new European patent market

The speaking faculty is comprised of 60-plus thought leaders in charge of intellectual property at some of the region’s most forward-thinking companies, as well as experts in the global IP market. It includes:

  • Ira Blumberg, vice president of intellectual property, Lenovo
  • Benjamin Bai, vice president and chief IP counsel, Ant Financial
  • Billie Chen, chief IP counsel, TSMC
  • Eric Damon, director of IP licensing Asia-Pacific, IBM
  • Eeva Hakoranta, head of licensing, Nokia Technologies
  • Brian Hinman, chief IP officer, Philips
  • Heath Hoglund, chief patent counsel, Dolby
  • Micky Minhas, chief patent counsel, Microsoft
  • Changhae Park, vice president, IP monetisation, NXP
  • Feng Ren, chief IP specialist, IP strategy department, Panasonic
  • Greg Sato, managing counsel, Intel
  • Bruce Schelkopf, senior vice president and chief IP officer, ABB
  • Xiang Wang, senior vice president, Xiaomi
  • Amy Xu, chief patent and technology counsel, Alibaba
  • Plus senior speakers from Ericsson, ETRI, IBM, LG Electronics, SCG, Unified Patents and many more.

As with all IPBCs, particular focus is attached to the networking aspect of the event, which includes a spectacular rooftop welcome reception on the 58th floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the glitzy IP Asia Elite gala dinner, which will honour the region’s IP value creation leaders.

There is no other event quite like IPBC Asia and, unsurprisingly, demand for tickets is high. For more information please visit www.IPBCAsia.com or contact our team at jconde@GlobeBMG.com with regard to registration.
