ISG has been appointed by Football Association Wales (FAW) to construct a National Football Development Centre in Newport, to help nurture footballing talent across the country. The design & build project was launched by Welsh footballing legend, Ian Rush, in his capacity as elite performance director of the Welsh Football Trust.

Located within the Newport International Sports Village, the state-of-the-art sports facility will boast four football pitches, including one with a new ‘Third Generation’ (3G) artificial surface. A two-storey steel-frame structure will house extensive changing facilities, physiotherapy and treatment suites, high-tech video analysis facilities and a viewing balcony overlooking the outdoor pitches.

Developed as a centre of excellence for coaching and sports science, the new facility will become the football development headquarters for the FAW and incorporates a range of administrative offices and a 100-seat conference centre.

The pitches were successfully completed in September and handover of the main building is scheduled for spring 2013. The centre will play an important role in developing footballing talent at all levels, and local clubs and community groups will be granted access to its FIFA 2-star, 3G pitch as part of an agreement with the FAW.

ISG’s John Rawlinson, managing director – South West, commented: “Securing this high profile, nationally important project against such strong competition firmly demonstrates our capabilities and ability to deliver at the very highest levels. As one of ISG’s fastest growing offices, our South Wales operation is consistently generating and converting high quality opportunities with key regional clients and this latest win adds to our burgeoning portfolio.

“We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver the National Football Development Centre, which is set to become a key asset in FAW’s drive to nurture talented youngsters and provide them with the very best levels of support to excel in competitive football.”

Ian Rush added: “Having access to state-of-the art training facilities right up through the age groups, as well as the improved back room infrastructure is only going to enhance the chances of Wales achieving success on the world stage.”
