ISG is set to provide a major boost to the Liverpool City Region economy when, in conjunction with Liverpool City Council and ACC Liverpool, the company hosts an Open Day in February to meet local businesses interested in working on the high profile £40 million Exhibition Centre Liverpool (ECL) development.

The Open Day will be held on Wednesday 13th February at ACC Liverpool, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

ISG is looking to work with high quality local and regional businesses, across all areas of the construction trade spectrum, interested in opportunities relating to the major expansion of facilities at ACC Liverpool. The contractor is looking to procure a high proportion of the materials and trade packages required to deliver the 8,100 sq m, three-hall ECL building from locally-based specialist firms.

In addition to fully utilising the skills and expertise of the regional supply chain, ISG is also committed to providing a long-lasting employment and skills training legacy, with the contractor also looking to employ a significant number of trade apprentices to help deliver this landmark waterfront development. ISG’s training partners Liverpool In Work and Liverpool Community College will also be in attendance at the Open Day event to explore the apprenticeship opportunities available to interested trade contractors.

ISG’s Jim Parker, managing director – North West, commented: “This event is an open invitation to all those high quality construction trade specialists looking to learn more about the opportunities associated with this keynote Liverpool scheme. The region has a wealth of skills and expertise that we are looking to deploy on the construction of ECL, and we are determined that the scheme will create a skills legacy that will not only benefit the local economy, but also the wider construction industry.”

Councillor Nick Small, Liverpool City Council Member for employment, enterprise and skills, said: “The construction of the Exhibition Centre will provide a great opportunity for local companies to become involved in a high-profile development. I am delighted that ISG is looking to involve local businesses and also that the company intends to recruit a number of apprentices. We know we have the skills in this area to deliver and I hope local firms grasp this opportunity.”

In its first year of operation, Exhibition Centre Liverpool is expected to host about 50 events and attract more than 250,000 visitors. It is estimated that the exhibition and event programme will support 1,300 jobs in the wider economy and contribute in the region of £40 million per year in economic benefit to the Merseyside area.
