CMS Acoustics Launches Free BB93 Reverberation Calculation Service

CMS Acoustics, the UK’s largest provider of acoustic solutions, has responded to the BB93 challenge facing architects by expanding its range of education support services to include free reverberation calculations. As a mandatory requirement for all new build schools and a design target for refurbishments, BB93 sets specific reverberation time criteria for different types of spaces within educational buildings. With a technical team expert in achieving BB93 compliance, CMS Acoustics can establish the reverberation times of a proposed room and offer guidance on the specification of any absorptive materials that may be required. To benefit from the free calculation service, architects simply need to submit basic room details including length, width, height; a summary of surface treatments in the existing plan; information on the room application. CMS Acoustics will then calculate the level of coverage necessary to achieve BB93 compliance, using either CMS SuperPhon Absorptive Panels or Vertiface Acoustic Wall Coverings. Paul Absolon, technical director, CMS Acoustics, comments: “BB93 can be a difficult document to interpret, particularly with the target reverberation times varying according to room type and application. By offering the free reverberation calculation service, we are helping to simplify the route to compliance and freeing the architect’s time up to focus on building design.” The standard free service will identify the total coverage required to achieve minimum BB93 standards. In addition to this, CMS Acoustics can also offer a free advisory service on the placement of panels and system design. For example, Vertiface can be used to create striking displays as the material will not fray when cut. In the same way, CMS Acoustics can work with the architect to conceptualise bespoke and innovative designs of SuperPhon Panels, which are manufactured in-house at the company’s northern distribution facilities. An expert in education acoustics, CMS Acoustics provides access to a comprehensive suite of BB93 support materials. This includes the dedicated education guide, detailing the full range of specialist acoustic solutions for nurseries, schools and higher education and the in-house technical team specialising in BB93 compliance. For sites seeking to undertake BB93 verification testing, which is expected to become mandatory in 2010, CMS Acoustics also offers a competitively priced on-site sound testing service.
