John Woods Nurseries wins Best New Variety – Hardy Nursery Stock at 2012 Grower of the Year Awards
John Woods Nurseries was this week crowned winner in the Best New Variety – Hardy Nursery Stock category at the Horticulture Week Grower of the Year Awards.
The new category award, for the Joie de Vivre rose, was presented to the wholesale nursery at the prestigious awards ceremony at London’s Lancaster Hotel on 23 February.
Joie de Vivre, which also won the 2011 ROSE OF THE YEAR® award and a silver medal at Le Roeulx Belgium Awards 2006, is cream pastel pink in colour, gently fragrant and full of vitality. It offers repeat flowering longevity and, with its compact habit which lends itself to rose containers throughout the summer, enjoys wide appeal.
Speaking from the awards ceremony, John Lord, Managing Director at John Woods Nurseries, said, “We’re delighted to be the first winner in this new category. Joie de Vivre is a very special rose and is highly popular with gardeners across the country. This award proves that Joie de Vivre has the hardiness to match its visual appeal.”
Joie de Vivre is available in 5L pots at a RRP of £12.99.

Rose Of The Year® and Roses UK
Mattocks Joie de Vivre rose won the 2011 ROSE OF THE YEAR® award. Rose Of The Year® was introduced in 1982 and its aim is to discover by trials the best rose(s) in any given year. The prize is awarded by Roses UK, a joint marketing venture between BARB (British Association Of Rose Breeders) and the British Rose Group of the HTA (previously known as the British Rose Growers Association). Rose of the Year® aims to maintain and increase the profile of the nation's favourite flower, the rose, through promotional activities
Rose breeders are invited, through Roses UK, to enter what they consider to be the best of their up and coming varieties in to the Rose of the Year competition; generally up to 20 varieties are submitted annually.
