Seven John Woods Nurseries staff awarded at Suffolk Show

 

Seven staff members at John Woods Nurseries, the supplier of plants to UK retailers, are to receive long service awards at this year’s Suffolk Show at Ipswich in June.

The awards are presented by The Suffolk Agricultural Association to people who have served the same employer at the same premises for 30 years or more. Receiving their awards from The Princess Royal will be John Woods Nurseries long timers, Richard Caley, Production Manager (31 years service), Paul Kerridge, Executive Cash & Carry (32), Carol Goddard, Inventory Administrator (32), Sam Shannon, Nursery Craftsman (30), Alan Farmer, Sales Account Manager (32) and Andrew Shaw, Nursery Supervisor, (32). Also awarded, but unable to attend the presentation is Malcolm Dick, Production Manager, for his 32 years service.

Commenting on the long service awards, John Lord, Managing Director of John Woods Nurseries said, “We congratulate and thank all these people for their excellent service over a combined 220 years. Their contributions over more than three decades have played a huge part in building John Woods Nurseries into the business it is today. We’re also proud that we are able to retain and provide long term careers for such loyal people.”

John Woods Nurseries

John Woods Nurseries was incorporated in August 2007, following a management buyout of the then Notcutts Nurseries by managing director John Lord and finance director John Kirkum.

The original John Woods Nurseries was established in 1837 and purchased by RC Notcutt in 1897. The name was chosen for the new business to reinforce the company’s heritage and authenticity.

John Woods produces hardy nursery stock on a ninety-five acre site in Suffolk. Sixty acres are currently in production, with the remaining thirty-five available for expansion.

The company’s product range extends to 1,500 lines in a range of sizes across shrubs, perennials, roses, ericaceous plants, climbers, trees and fruit. More than 1.3million units are produced annually.

ISO14001 and ISO9001 accredited, John Woods Nurseries is one of the UK’s top five nurseries supplying the garden retail market. Annual turnover is approximately six million pounds.
