The Ultimate Viking Banquet, Friday 21 February 2014

They know that this will be their very last chance to feast before Ragnarok – the Norse apocalypse – predicted for 22 February, so the Vikings are promising that the Ultimate Viking Banquet will be the best evening of their lives – and a few tickets remain available for some lucky diners!

The Ultimate Viking Banquet is part of the 30thJORVIK Viking Festival, and takes place in York Minster and the adjacent St William’s College on the eve of Ragnarok, Friday 21 February.  The Viking Jarl and senior members of his household will welcome visitors into the stunning setting of York Minster – the land for which was generously gifted to the Chapter York by another Jarl named Ulph in the 11thcentury – for drinks and an exclusive choral performance, before diners are led by torchlight into the hall of St William’s College to dine like gods!

“For 30 years, the JORVIK Viking Festival has celebrated the feast of Jolablot, which marks the coming of spring, but this year, with Ragnarok predicted for 22 February, we’ll be pushing the longship out a little further: a feast worthy of the end of days,” comments Festival director, Danielle Daglan.  “The Vikings truly knew how to celebrate, so this will be a thrilling evening of music, poetry and entertainment to dispel their nerves ahead of the huge Ragnarok finale event at the Eye of York the following evening.”

With other events already selling out – including the Viking Strongman Competition being held at the Guildhall the following morning – tickets for the exclusive evening of Norse-inspired merriment and dining are expected to sell out soon.  Tickets cost £65 per person, and are available from the JORVIK Viking Festival website (www.jorvik-viking-festival.co.uk) or by calling 01904 615505.

A few tickets are also available for the spectacular finale of the festival – Ragnarok: Battle Spectacular - at the Eye of York on the evening of Saturday 22 February.  The city will once again become a fiery battleground, with live battle action from around 300 Viking warriors, sound and light effects, and stunning pyrotechnics.  As this event regularly sells out in advance, prebooking is essential for anyone who wants ringside seats for the end of the world!  Tickets cost £12 for adults and £9.50 for concessions, with a family ticket (up to four people) available for £36.  Tickets can be reserved online or booked by calling 01904 615505.
