St John’s pupils raise over £16,000 for Naomi House

Date: 21 August 2009 Centenary Year Celebrations raise money for Hampshire children’s hospice Generous pupils at St John’s College in Southsea handed over a cheque for £16,593.33 to Hilary Jukes, Fundraising Co-ordinator for Naomi House, at the recent Lower School Prize Giving ceremony. The amount was raised through a host of celebratory fundraising events through the College’s Centenary year and included; school challenge days, concerts, cake and second- hand book sales, an Upper School sponsored walk at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and a firework bonanza at the College fields in Farlington. Pupils in the St John’s College Junior School were also delighted to donate the proceeds for their ‘St John’s has Talent’ competition to the final amount. Headmaster of the College Nigel Thorne said: “We have been delighted to support such a worthy cause in this very important year for the school, and hope to keep a close relationship with Naomi House in the future. St John’s College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for children aged two to eighteen situated in the heart of Southsea. Founded as a boy’s school in 1908, the college now attracts over 700 pupils and students to its nursery, lower & upper school and sixth form.
