Month-long activities planned for February to bring awareness to the fight against heart disease

MEMPHIS, TN—February 18, 2013 -- February has been designated “American Heart Month” to raise awareness of heart disease, the number 1 killer of women. Each year, the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement encourages Americans to wear red during February to help spread awareness of the disease and raise funds to support research and education.

Merry Maids, the nation’s largest home cleaning company, is going red in a big way. During the month of February, Merry Maids will donate $5 of each home cleaning to the American Heart Association up to $25,000. Also for every “Like” received on the national Merry Maids Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/MerryMaids) in February, Merry Maids will donate $1 to the American Heart Association up to $5,000.

Local Merry Maids branch and franchise offices are helping spread awareness of the disease during February by wearing red shirts during the entire month, conducting informational sessions for team members with cardiologists and nutritionists, hosting heart-healthy events and conducting employee blood pressure checks.

"At Merry Maids, we are proud to be a national supporter of Go Red For Women and raise funds for life-saving research while educating our customers and team members about this largely preventable disease,” says Stefan Figley, Merry Maids vice president of marketing.

Merry Maids customers are also helping to raise funds in support of the Go Red For Women movement during American Heart Month by “Raising the Roof.” Participating Merry Maids locations have Go Red For Women coin banks that are placed in customer homes to collect spare change. At the end of February, a Merry Maids team member will pick-up the bank and donate 100 percent to the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease and to help millions of women across the country.

If you are not currently a Merry Maids customer but would like to join us in supporting the fight against heart disease, visit www.heart.org/merrymaids to donate to the American Heart Association online.
