Metsä Group Press Release 24 January 2014

Metsä Group has donated EUR 1 million towards the construction of the New Children's Hospital in Finland. This also makes the company one of the new hospital's founding donors. Today, 24 January, Metsä Group’s President and CEO Kari Jordan handed over the donation to Anne Berner, chairwoman of the New Children’s Hospital 2017 Foundation.

“Metsä Group's parent company Metsäliitto Cooperative celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. The new children's hospital is an important joint project for Finns, and Metsä Group wants to contribute to its implementation, while celebrating the long history of its parent company," says Kari Jordan.

"We want to do our part in ensuring that children and teenagers suffering from severe illnesses will get first-class care also in the future."

"I would like to warmly thank Metsä Group for its significant support to building the New Children's Hospital. It is great to have a globally operating Finnish company as a founding donor in our project. The old children's hospital, founded in 1946, was to a great extent built with the help of Finnish industry. The donation from Metsä Group shows that also today Finnish industry fulfils their social responsibility," says Anne Berner, chairwoman of the New Children’s Hospital 2017 Foundation.

The goal of the New Children's Hospital 2017 project is to collect EUR 30 million in donations from companies and private individuals. Through the donations, a new leading unit focusing on specialised healthcare for children will be built in Helsinki by 2017. After the donation from Metsä Group, the total amount donated so far is EUR 20.7 million.
