The Montgomery College Foundation is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Aronson Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Aronson LLC, a nationally-ranked top 50 accounting and consulting firm headquartered in Rockville. The grant will support students interested in pursuing careers in accounting who are enrolled in the Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Business Institute (MBI) honors program. A full scholarship will be awarded to one MBI student per year for the next five years, beginning in the fall 2014 semester. This is the second five-year commitment that the Aronson Foundation has made to Montgomery College’s MBI program, bringing the foundation’s total giving to more than $45,000 for MBI and general scholarships.

“Montgomery College plays such an important role in our community,” said Jeffery Capron, managing partner of Aronson LLC and president of the Aronson Foundation. “We are proud of our relationship with the College and the Macklin Business Institute students who have received Aronson Foundation Scholarships. We look forward to continuing to support and mentor these students.”

Established in 1999, the MBI program provides a business honors education to Montgomery College's top business students. The program offers a challenging curriculum, experiential learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting and scholarship benefits. MBI students have transferred to leading U.S. four-year business schools including the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, Cornell University, New York University and Columbia University. The Aronson Foundation’s grant is part of the Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Foundation's $750,000 challenge grant, which created a dollar-for-dollar matching challenge of up to $750,000 in gifts and pledges to support the MBI program. “Aronson is a strong partner of Montgomery College by supporting the work we do to prepare our county’s future workforce,” said Dr. DeRionne Pollard, Montgomery College president. “In addition to generous scholarship support, Aronson’s leaders are volunteering to help the College. Managing partner Jeffrey Capron serves on the President’s Roundtable, a dedicated group of business leaders who advise us on workforce issues. Furthermore, Michael Yuen, senior manager for Aronson, is a Montgomery College Foundation board member.”
