Mott MacDonald has been appointed by HS2 Ltd to provide land access and referencing services for the new high speed rail network from London to the West Midlands.

The consultancy has been awarded the £1.1 million Country North contract, one of four land referencing contracts under Lot 4 of HS2 Ltd’s Professional Services Framework. The Country North agreement will cover land referencing services through Warwickshire and Staffordshire, as well as the connection to the West Coast Main Line.

Working closely with HS2 Ltd’s land and property team, Mott MacDonald will arrange access to land for ecological, environmental and engineering surveys. The consultancy will also prepare a schedule of all owners and occupiers of land affected by the scheme, known as a Book of Reference, which forms one of the hybrid bill documents that are due to be submitted to Parliament by the end of 2013.

Mott MacDonald’s project director Steven Jackson said: “This appointment shows that Mott MacDonald is now recognised as a leading provider of services relating to land ownership and the associated statutory processes, following our work on HS1, Crossrail and the Thames Tideway Tunnel. We are delighted to secure this our fourth HS2 contract.”

Mott MacDonald has been awarded one of four design contracts under Lot 1 of the Professional Services Framework to prepare preliminary designs for the London Metropolitan Area section of the high speed rail link between London and the West Midlands. The consultancy is also part of a consortium working on two of the four environmental impact assessment contracts under Lot 3 of the framework.
