NCC has been commissioned by Stockholm Public Transport (SL) to expand the Roslagsbanan light rail line from single to double track in north Stockholm. The order is valued at just over SEK 270 million.

NCC will construct the double track between Täby kyrkby and Kragstalund stations, a distance of 2.1 km. With the double track, SL will be able to increase Roslagsbanan’s capacity and more trains will be able to serve the route, enabling more frequent services. Traffic safety will also be improved as a result of the expansion to double tracks and the fact that several railway crossings will feature grade separation.

“NCC has extensive experience of conducting construction work while train services are in operation and we are planning this project to ensure traffic safety for the public in the vicinity and that the work environment is safe for our employees,” says Ingegerd Simonsson, Regional Manager Civil East, NCC Infrastructure.

In conjunction with the expansion, measures are to be implemented to reduce noise levels, for example, using noise barriers. NCC will also construct new bridges and install advanced support structures.

“The Roslagsbanan light rail line is used by many people and, in collaboration with SL, we are going to plan the work so as to minimize disruptions during the construction period as far as possible,” says Ingegerd Simonsson.

The contract is a design-build contract and is valued at just over SEK 270 million. The order will be registered during the first quarter of 2019 in business area NCC Infrastructure.
