NCC to build superstructure over treatment plant in Helsingborg

NCC has been commissioned by Nordvästra Skånes Vatten och Avlopp (NSVA) to construct a superstructure over the treatment plant in central Helsingborg, as well as to build an extension. The work is being carried out to enable an urban regeneration project adjacent to the treatment plant. The order value is expected to amount to approximately SEK 275 million.

A new city district will be built next to the Öresundsverket wastewater treatment plant in central Helsingborg. For this to happen, primarily considering the odor, the facility will be built over and partially covered with green spaces. In so doing, offices and housing can be built close to the treatment plant.

“The aim of this type of contract is to achieve an interaction with the operating organization at an early stage, to pool the expertise of NSVA and NCC in a project organization. This means that we can ensure a better and more cost-effective project. We have already used this type of cooperation with NCC in our partnering project for the new water tower in Helsingborg,” says Jenny Juliusson, Project Manager at NSVA.

In addition to the superstructure, NCC’s assignment also includes the construction of premises for the treatment plant’s new visitor center and a development facility. The project is a design-build contract in the form of a partnering arrangement. NSVA and the City of Helsingborg are planning to introduce a new wastewater system in the development facility, to separate food waste, sewage and other waste water.

The first phase will begin immediately, when the parties will collaborate in project design, planning and arrive at a construction target price for the assignment. The second, construction phase is scheduled to begin in April 2018. The project is due to be completed in May 2020.

“Together with NSVA, we are now carrying out the assignment to build over the treatment plant while it continues to be fully operational. The construction process also involves many different tasks at various locations on the site, which makes it a complex but highly interesting project,” says Nils Bjelm, Division Manager at NCC Infrastructure.

The estimated order value of SEK 275 million will be registered during the first quarter of 2018 in the NCC Infrastructure business area assuming approval is reached on a target price with the City of Helsingborg.
