North American Partners in Anesthesia Celebrates Its Nurse Anesthetists during National Nurse Anesthetist Week

North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the largest single specialty anesthesia and perioperative management company in the United States, recognizes Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with its celebration of the 15th annual National Nurse Anesthetist Week, January 19-25, 2014, with this year’s theme of “Our Priority. Our Passion. Our Patients.” In select locations, NAPA’s anesthesia leadership demonstrates their appreciation for their CRNA team members through flowers, luncheons, and gift cards.

Beginning in 1999, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) established the National Nurse Anesthetists Week to bring awareness to the role of CRNAs. This event was created to encourage CRNAs to take the opportunity to educate the public about anesthesia safety, questions to ask prior to undergoing surgery, and the benefits of receiving anesthesia care from a nurse anesthetist.  The theme of this year’s campaign emphasizes the high standards to which CRNAs adhere when administering anesthesia, and the quality of care they provide for their patients.

“Nurse anesthetists have been at the forefront of anesthesia patient safety for many years and continue to play a very important role in the anesthesia care team model,” said John F. Di Capua, MD, CEO of NAPA. “The National Nurse Anesthetist Week is a wonderful initiative to recognize nurse anesthetists within our organization and throughout the country for their role in the anesthesia community and their passion to provide quality patient care.”

Providing anesthesia care to patients in the United States for 150 years, CRNAs are anesthesia professionals who safely administer more than 34 million anesthetics to patients each year in the United States. CRNAs practice in every setting where anesthesia is available and are the sole anesthesia professionals in the vast majority of rural hospitals and have been the main provider of anesthesia care to U.S. service men and women on the front lines since World War I. Their responsibilities include administering anesthetics, monitoring vital signs and helping ensure millions of patients receive the safest anesthesia care possible.
