Metro Nashville has signed a new contract with Opus Inspection to continue providing the vehicle emission inspection program. The new five-year contract will begin on July 1, 2017 and may be extended at Metro Nashville’s option up to an additional five years. Opus Inspection has provided a turnkey vehicle emission inspection program for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (Metro Nashville) since 2007.

The Opus vehicle inspection program in Metro Nashville includes integrated operations in our drive-through multi-lane buildings:

  • 6 inspection stations with a total of 36 vehicle test lanes;
  • Fully automated inspection systems, operated by over 50 Opus’ employed inspectors;
  • Real-time communication of all inspection-related data with all inspection lanes;
  • Integrated vehicle registration services; and,
  • Several mobile inspection systems.

“We have had a longstanding, excellent relationship with Metro Nashville,” said Chris Smith, Opus Inspection’s Vice President of Operations.  “It is very gratifying to see the Metro Nashville Health Department put their faith in our company to continue providing the quality inspection services that the motoring public has become accustomed to.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with Metro Nashville for many more years.”

Opus estimates the contract value to be between USD 2.3 and USD 3.3 million per year, depending on the use of new technologies.

The new contract also allows for Opus Inspection to implement new self-service kiosks and wireless remote OBD technology when new authorizing regulations are in place.
