MODESTO, Calif., May 28, 2014 -- Home and garden retailer Orchard Supply Hardware® announced a donation of $2,000 to the Modesto Garden Club as part of its Open House celebration on May 31st.The open house commemorates major renovations to its East Modesto store, located at 1800 Oakdale Road. The festivities begin at 6:30 a.m. with VIP presentations and giveaways.

“Our team is energized by the new layout and our new look,” says Store Manager Robert Cervantes. “The new neighborhood format is bright and inviting, featuring wider aisles, colorful displays and improved lighting that our customers will really enjoy.” Cervantes notes that garden enthusiasts will also appreciate the revamped nursery, which nearly doubled in size to over 14,000 square feet.

In addition to the expanded nursery, the redesign features an expanded paint department highlighting Orchard’s high quality Benjamin Moore™ paint selection and a new workbench offering services such as knife sharpening, rescreening, pipe threading and pipe, conduit, chain, cable and rope cutting.

Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh will present a proclamation to Orchard’s management team.

Members of the Modesto Garden Club will also be on hand to formally accept a donation of $2,000 from Orchard. With well over 500 members, it is the largest garden club in California and an  integral part of the Modesto community. Founded in 1924, the club’s civic projects, ranging from the Center Plaza clock to the hanging baskets of downtown, beautify every corner of the city.

According to Club President Dan Yockey, Orchard’s donation will go to help the horticulture program at Grace Davis High School, whose greenhouse was recently rebuilt and updated. “It’s an environment where students can learn about the elements of gardening, including practical lessons like installing a sprinkler system,” says Yockey. “We’re thrilled that this gift will go to help the next generation of gardeners.”

Richard Maltsbarger, Orchard’s president, commented, “We are proud of our roots in every community we serve, and are very excited to partner with the Modesto Garden Club to support Grace Davis’s horticulture program. It’s one more way we can work with our neighbors to make our community stronger.”
