Birtley, UK - 18th October 2012, An employee from Parker domnick hunter Process Filtration, a global filtration solutions manufacturer from Birtley, Tyne and Wear, UK, was crowned winner of the People Management Award at the CMI Management and Leadership Awards ceremony in central London. The annual awards celebrate the achievements and expertise of the best managers and management teams in the country.

Lesley Dixon, Value Stream Manager for the North East employer, was shortlisted earlier in the year and was chosen to receive the accolade from 50 finalists from all sectors, nations and regions of the UK. Lesley’s success flies the flag for the high quality of management and leadership within the manufacturing industry. This sets a fantastic example for other managers to follow suit.

Lesley was selected to receive the award for demonstrating how the implementation of an effective people management strategy, through the introduction of High Performance Team working, has impacted positively on the business and its employees.

Lesley commented: “High performance team working was a major cultural change for the business to undertake. Top management, therefore, needed to be totally committed to and supportive of the initiative. There were many changes to be made and it was recognised we had a great deal of untapped resource within the company. This was a major turning point. The people involved in manufacturing have the most knowledge about the processes and have many excellent ideas ready to be implemented. Through providing employees with the skills and time to progress these ideas, we are able to move the business to another level.”

The CMI Awards judge organisations, teams and individual managers by looking at issues including financial success, governance, people management, communications, ethics, sustainability and learning. A total of 11 CMI Management and Leadership Awards were presented by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in categories including Outstanding Leader, Young Achiever and Social Responsibility Management.

Ann Francke, CEO of the Chartered Management Institute, said: “It has been an inspiration to meet these management trail blazers. All those shortlisted should be extremely proud and continue to demonstrate the levels of professionalism, dedication and excellence that they have been commended for. The quality of management in the UK needs to be raised to compete with the rest of the world, especially as the economic slump continues and when business and consumer confidence is worryingly low. Strong leadership is what matters for organisations and at CMI we feel it is important to celebrate those achieving great results.”

CMI, the only chartered professional body dedicated to improving standards of management and leadership excellence in the UK, runs the CMI Management and Leadership Awards each year to recognise and celebrate the best managers and management across the country.
