Make Away, Brighton’s only pop-up shop powered by volunteers on the Retail Ready People project, will be open and ready for business in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes at 11am on Saturday 3 November for one month only.

Make Away marks the first of pioneering voluntary project Retail Ready People, a FREE 12-week skills development and volunteering programme giving 16 – 25 year olds the chance to set up and run a pop-up shop in their local area. The Brighton volunteers have opted to give their customers a more hands-on retail experience – screen-printing their own t-shirts, bags and cards from a choice of designs by local artists who will be showcasing their work to the public.

Throughout November, Make Away will be located at 18 Brighton Square, and will be open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am until 5pm, plus four evenings where the creative hub will come alive with workshops in button-covering, felting, jewellery-making and screen-printing.

Jewellery, prints and books from selected local artists will also be on sale.

Nicole Brant, part of the News & Promo said: “Jack Black was our first eminent customer, visiting the shop to offer his support before we’d even opened, so who knows who is likely to drop by and fashion their own t-shirts! We’re all very excited, so come down and try your hand at screen-printing and take away some customised goods to share in the fun.”
