Defence and security company Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd (SBDS) and US-based NonLethal Technologies Inc. (NLT) have today signed a long-term cooperation agreement whereby SBDS will market and sell the IronFistTMand Cobra40TMless-lethal weapon systems, including their 38-mm and 40-mm munitions, on an exclusive basis in the European market.

SBDS is a fully-owned company of Saab, located in Thun, Switzerland and organized within Saab’s Business area Dynamics. The company is a leader in the design, development and production of mortar rounds, warheads and less-lethal applications. It is a specialist in total munitions life cycle management and provides servicing of different ammunition types, chiefly for large-calibre products. The company delivers to the world market and maintains a state-of-the-art production site in Switzerland.

NLT was originally formed in 1994 as a research and development firm by former employees of Federal Laboratories. It evolved into a full manufacturing operation in 2002 when it moved to its current 46-acre plant in Homer City, Pennsylvania. In recent years NLT’s product line has expanded dramatically, to include a full range of less-lethal force and tactical munitions, and support weapon systems for military, correctional and law enforcement customers.

“NLT and SBDS will make a world-class team given both companies’ prominent positions in their markets with superior products. The companies share common core values and market strategies. They are fast, innovative, quality producers well-known in their respective markets and willing to move quickly. We will benefit from each other through our complementary know-how, products and networks. I am convinced that this cooperation will be the start of another success story within our company”, says Stephan Kocher, CEO of Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd (SBDS).

Scott Oberdick, President and COO of NLT says: “We look forward to this cooperative opportunity with the SBDS marketing team, to introduce our less-lethal weapons and munitions to the European defence, correctional and law enforcement communities. The SBDS experience and reputation for high-quality, high-performance weapons and munitions, along with the strength of its management and support services within the defence industry, assures us of a strong teaming effort in Europe.”
