Karin Nilsdotter, CEO of Spaceport Sweden, has been named the 2014 Technology Woman of the Year.  She has been awarded the prize in recognition for her activities in promoting Swedish technology and innovation by developing technology products and world class services in this area. The award is presented by defence and security company Saab as part of the Talent Excellence Summit & Awards, organized by the employer branding company Universum.

- I am both pleased and proud to have received this award as Technology Woman of the Year and hope to inspire more women to choose a career within technology, and aim for the top. Saab’s initiative to encourage female leaders and innovative thinking is important. If Sweden is to be competitive, we must work with challenging projects that can take the world by surprise. If we succeed in attracting talent and diversity, the potential – just like in space – is infinite, says Karin Nilsdotter.

The jury, consisting of representatives from Saab and Universum discuss the motivation for awarding Karin Nilsdotter with this year’s title:

"This year's winner of the Saab Technology Woman of the Year is a visionary with ambitious plans. She is passionate about technology and the possibilities of what can be achieved, and proves this with her dedication to evolving Swedish space technology. She demonstrates that one can reach their goals and fulfill their dreams if you dare to. This makes her an excellent role model for young girls within or hoping to enter, the science, technology and engineering professions."

- By highlighting good examples, we hope to encourage more people - women and men - to choose engineering as a future profession. The ability to develop advanced technology is important for the whole of Sweden’s competitiveness. We have clear targets at Saab for 30 per cent of our managers to be women and we are well on the way to achieving these with more than 25 per cent today, says Saab's HR director Lena Eliasson.
