Sectra sells DARC infrastructure for financial information to Switzerland
1/13/2000 4:31 AM EST
The Swedish IT and telecom company Sectra has sold DARC infrastructure to
the national Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse. The SEK 1.3 million
order is an important step toward Sectra's goal to be involved in the
establishment of DARC systems throughout Europe.
Sectra is a world leader in DARC (Data Radio Channel) technology and has
been involved previously in the installation of DARC systems in Sweden,
Austria, the Netherlands and in parts of Germany, France, Norway and the
U.S.
"The order from SRG SSR is a result of the procurement in December 1999
by the Swiss finance company Oceantrade of Sectra Fortuner, our portable
receiver for financial information based on DARC technology," says Dick
Ollas, President of Sectra Wireless Technologies AB. SRG SSR is now
setting up a nationwide DARC-channel in Switzerland. In the beginning of
the spring Oceantrade's financial information will be available real time
in major Swiss cities and throughout Switzerland within a year."
DARC is a digital radio information system in which information is
transmitted via the FM network with a transmission speed of 16 kbit/sec.
DARC technology makes it possible to send information in real time via the
FM network and this immediately provides national coverage. The
information becomes more easily accessible and information distribution is
significantly less expensive than, for example, over the Internet, WAP and
GSM.
DARC is an ITU and ETSI standard, which uses a subcarrier in the FM band.
