Serneke to extensively renovate the historic building Kv Björken
Serneke Construction has signed an agreement with Familjebostäder to renovate the building Kv Björken, which is on the historical register, in Östermalm, Stockholm. The order is valued at approximately SEK 75 million.
Kv Björken in Östermalm in Stockholm was built in 1885 and is Sweden’s oldest listed rental apartment building. Now it’s time to renovate the building, and Serneke Construction has been commissioned by the property owner Familjebostäder. The contract comprises a plumbing overhaul and complete renovation of 26 existing apartments, the addition of four new attic apartments, refurbishment of all technical facilities and the addition of a new elevator in the courtyard.
“Familjebostäder is a customer with which we have worked extensively in new construction, so it is exciting to now carry out a renovation project together. Kv Björken has significant historical value and the fact that all apartments have their own design make it a big challenge,” says Kalle Eriksson, Construction Manager, Serneke Construction.
“We look forward to a good collaboration with Serneke and are pleased to be able to get started soon with the much-needed renovation of this unique building. The property will be brought up to current standards to meet today’s environmental and regulatory requirements while preserving the character of the building. It is also exciting to be able to build four new attic apartments to offer more tenants the opportunity to have a rental apartment in a building from 1885,” says Lars Björk, property manager at Familjebostäder.
Construction will commence this month and the final stage of the project is scheduled for completion in January 2019. The order amount will be included in the order intake for the third quarter of 2017.
