It’s time to put your best foot forward, then your other foot, then wiggle your hips and finally do a spin…! The organisers of a major two-day dance festival are making free tickets available to order from today (Thursday October 18th).

One festival spread over two days and across seven different locations, the Lincolnshire – Let’s Dance! event will give everyone a chance to try their hand at scores of different dance styles, tuck into tasty food and watch live demonstrations.

People can now book free spaces for dance taster sessions on Saturday 17th November at The New Life Church and Healthy Hub in Lincoln as well as free tickets to the céilidhs taking place across the county on Sunday 18th November.

The festival is being organised as the final showcase for the two-year £180,000 Dance4Life project which aims to increase the number of adults involved in dance across Lincolnshire.

Keyna Paul, Director of the charity Lincolnshire Dance which is the parent organisation of the Dance4Life programme, said: “This festival is our way of shouting about all the good work we’ve been doing and we want as many people as possible to come along and find out more.

“We’re expecting the event to be very popular, so we’re encouraging people to take advantage of the free tickets and book a place as soon as possible. Don’t miss out on a chance to book a taster session for the dance you want to try or one of our céilidhs.

“The classes on offer couldn’t be more varied. On Saturday we’ll have Egyptian dancing, salsa classes, a chance to try Bollywood dancing and Zumba to name a few, while the Sunday céilidhs will give you a chance to try something fun and energetic with a twist.

“It really will be something spectacular and we hope that anyone taking part will develop a passion for dancing.”

On Saturday 17th November people will be able to try dance classes at The New Life Church while The Healthy Hub will serving up free and tasty food and offering tips on living a healthier lifestyle. There will also be a chance to see photo exhibitions, personal stories and dance demonstrations from groups which have been set up as a result of the project.

VIPs from Lincolnshire will be invited to watch the dances, before enjoying a glass of fizz and nibbles and hearing from some of the key players in the Dance4Life programme on the Saturday evening. To ensure as many people as possible can take part in the Lincoln event on November 17th, free coaches from Holbeach, Bourne, Spilsby, Bardney, Binbrook, Bardney, Wragby & Scotter can be booked alongside their ticket.

On Sunday 18th November four rural locations – Spilsby, Holbeach, Binbrook and Scotter – as well as Lincoln city will host a traditional céilidh, also known as a barn dance. Live bands will play at each venue, with dance leaders and dancers who have been attending classes kicking off the event alongside members of the public. This will take place between 2pm and 5pm.

They will all be scheduled to start at the same time across all locations, bringing synchronised dancing to the county!

The festival is already drumming up excitement amongst the dance instructors who will be teaching on the Saturday.

Sally-Anne McWilliam teaches Bollywood to Hollywood classes, which fuse Indian and burlesque dance moves, as well as a generic dance class called Dance Intros in Scotter.

“I’m looking forward the event because it will give my ladies the opportunity to demonstrate the hard work they have put in to practising their dance routines,” she said. “I am also looking forward to meeting lots of new people who love to get involved in dancing.”

Dance teacher Sarah Hill, who teaches the Freedom in Dance class at Holbeach, added: “There is a real buzz of excitement over here in Holbeach as we prepare for this wonderful celebration weekend. We are truly looking forward to sharing with other like-minded people what we get up to on a Wednesday afternoon!”

Notes to editors:

  • The five céilidhs will take place at Franklin Hall in Spilsby with music by Akmeds Camel, Holbeach WI Hall with live band The Beltonas, Kimond Road at Binbrook with a performance by Flanagans Fancy, Scotter Village Hall featuring Rosianna Céilidh Band and The Healthy Hub in Lincoln with the Liam Robinson Dance Band
  • Lincolnshire Dance is a charitable organisation launched in 2000 to offer a chance for people from all walks of life to become involved in dance in some way. The idea was to change hearts and minds to get people involved. As part of that programme, a two-year project called Dance4Life was launched as a spin-off from the Government-led Change4Life scheme.
  • Dance4Life is funded through the Lincolnshire Health and Wellbeing Fund, which is supported by Lincolnshire County Council and NHS Lincolnshire. The scheme aims to give adults who may not have had access to dance or lacked confidence a chance to try different disciplines.
  • Dance4Life is targeted at adults and works to break down barriers which could stop them taking up dance. It’s about encouraging people who may have lacked confidence – sometimes with the help of a dance buddy – creating opportunities in areas which have been poorly serviced previously such as small towns and villages, offering quality classes which will appeal to adults ranging from burlesque to street dance, and giving people the chance to become a qualified dance instructor.
