SIEMENS TEAM HELPS TRANSFORM PLAY AREA FOR LOCAL CHILDREN’S HOME

A team from Siemens has helped Bodmin Road Children’s Centre, in the Middleton area of Leeds, transform a disused tennis court into a useful sports area.

Employees from Siemens Mechanical Drives, based at Stourton, had noticed the overgrown area on a previous visit to deliver Easter eggs to the children, and they offered to clear it up. The task took a full day’s work by the eight-strong volunteer team, comprising Richard Birkbeck, Julie Ferguson, Tom Hammond, Jane Hobson, Dave Howard, James Hughes, Gary Husband and Tony Sutcliffe.

Basketball hoops, basketballs, football nets and footballs were also donated by Siemens to complete the transformation, and in the words of the centre’s deputy manager, Toni Graham: “Your volunteers have done a brilliant job. The young people wanted to play on it straightaway.”

Siemens team leader Julie Ferguson said although it was hard work, everyone had found it very satisfying to produce such a good result for the centre and to know that the children would have a useful extended play area for the future.
