Integrated rainwater harvesting system to reduce water consumption at The FA’s New Centre of Excellence – St George’s Park
Ecozi commissioned to supply a rainwater harvesting system at The Football Association’s National Football Centre at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.
Leading UK rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling specialists, Ecozi has successfully implemented a rainwater harvesting system at the brand new National Football Centre, St Georges Park in Staffordshire. Contracted to M&E contractor Derry Building Services, Ecozi project managed and supplied two rainwater harvesting systems, one for The Hilton Hotel and one for the sports and science building.
The complex is on track to achieve their ‘Very Good’ BREEAM target by specifying water reduction methods including rainwater harvesting and air source heat pumps. It is estimated that the rainwater harvesting will reduce WC flushing requirements by up to 50%.
Roger McEvoy, Managing Director, Ecozi said:
“This has been a fantastic project to work on and the first contract with Derry Building Services. The project management was first class and all contact points with Derry were straight-forward. The system commissioning was completed without delay, an indicator of a quality installation first time.”
Dean O’Neill, Derry Building Services said:
“The Ecozi rain manager is an integrated solution to meet the requirements of a category 5 break tank with twin booster pumps and logic control. The installation required just simple piping hook-ups and connection of three cables – we even ran it on mainswater prior to Ecozi commissioning. Ecozi provided commissioning of the complete system which was installed by ourselves.”
The vast complex has a 230 bedroom hotel operated by Hilton and a 21,000m² sports and science building. The total site with 12 pitches is located in 130 hectares.
The sports and science building underground rainwater tank is connected to 25% of the total roof area via syphonic drainage filtered with a pre-tank mesh filter. The entire hotel roof is connected to its own underground storage tank, also with a pre-tank filter.
Rainwater managers are used to distribute the rainwater directly to the WCs and automatically switch between mainswater back-up and rainwater. The rainwater managers are factory built and tested providing the installation team with simple piping and electrical hook-ups to one integrated unit. Maintenance is also simplified with use of a rain manager and can be completed with one person on an annual or twice-annual basis. Ecozi were employed by Derry Building Services on a supply and commission basis.
