Total recycling efforts contributed to the responsible disposal of over 100 million pounds of electronic waste

Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, recently recognized 16 companies for collectively recycling over 100 million pounds of e-waste. Sims selected the companies which shipped the most weight to a U.S. Sims Recycling Solutions facility in the 2013 calendar year. These leading companies in electronics manufacturing, insurance, retail, technology and telecommunications industries each recycled between 1-10 million pounds over the 12-month period. These businesses dedicate significant corporate resources to ensure that the proper methods for recycling and waste disposal are in place. This level of investment creates jobs, conserves natural resources and reduces carbon emissions.

Based on the U.S. EPA Waste Reduction Model from February 2012, reusing or recycling 100 million pounds of electronic waste is equivalent to conserving approximately 12.5 million gallons of gasoline, removing 25,000 cars from the road, or planting 2.9 million trees.

“With so many great IT asset disposal companies in the industry, we are honored to be working with these leading companies,” stated Steve Skurnac, president of Sims Recycling Solutions. “Sims will continue to work toward providing all customers with the most advanced electronics recycling services on the market, to ensure all customer environmental, data security and compliance needs are exceeded.”

Each company was presented with an award and a certificate of sustainability that demonstrated how it’s commitment to electronics recycling benefits the U.S. economy and environment.
