Body Basics Inc. issued a voluntary product liability recall of ACTRA-Sx 500 Dietary Supplement Capsules after independent lab tests detected the presence of Sildenafil Citrate in the product.

Sildenafil is used in drugs that treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and is approved for that use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The presence of this ingredient in ACTRA-Sx 500 makes the product an unapproved drug.  In addition, the active drug ingredient is not listed on the label for this product.

The presence of Sildenafil Citrate can be dangerous to certain users as it may interact with nitrates of some other prescription drugs and result in dangerously low blood pressure levels. No injuries have been reported so far.

Consumers who have diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease often have to take nitrates and ED is prevalent in men with these conditions. Some consumers may use this dietary supplement as an alternative to enhance sexual performance.

The recalled product is from the Lot 008-A and has an expiration date of December 2013.  ACTRA-Sx 500, the purple and gold capsule, is sold in bottles of 5 count with a UPC code of 830733002015, reports the FDA.

The company will offer a complete refund for anyone returning the product of the specific recall.
