Nursing Home Cabinet Accident Settled for $1 Million

The family of a 90-year-old nun crushed and killed by a falling cabinet will receive a settlement of nearly $1 million from the cabinet maker and the New York nursing home where the deadly accident took place.

Eyewitness News (WABC) reports that the nun’s family was initially informed that the death was a freak accident by the nursing home, which is owned by Rockland County in N.Y. However, an investigation by the TV station revealed two other incidents of residents of the home being injured seriously by falling cabinets that were improperly installed.

In addition, the cabinet maker had a warning label removed from the 360 newly installed cabinets that instructed installers to “securely attach” the cabinets to the wall with “anchoring devices.”
