A woman has filed an asbestos lawsuit against 17 companies that she alleges negligently manufactured and sold dangerous asbestos products.

Sherri Hall, the executrix of the estate of Arlis Hall, filed the suit in Jefferson County District Court in Beaumont, Texas on Dec. 21, 2012. According to a notice in The Southeast Texas Record, the suit claims Arlis Hall was exposed to asbestos during his refinery career. In addition to punitive damages, the plaintiff is also suing for “mental anguish and loss of companionship.”

Asbestos exposure is linked to deadly diseases and conditions, including asbestos lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma. Refineries were frequently sites of asbestos exposure because of the substance’s widespread use in the pipe insulation.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants negligently manufactured, sold, and used asbestos products—although they were aware of the danger asbestos posed. The companies named in the Hall asbestos lawsuit include Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, Chevron U.S.A., E.I. DuPont De Nemours, Entergy Texas, and ExxonMobil.
