Mainau Island:  Flowers and family fun

Set on Lake Constance, one of Europe’s most beautiful lakes, Mainau is renowned for its flower-filled gardens. But there is also plenty for families with younger children. Blumi’s Lakeside World is perfect for letting off steam, while Water World is a challenging, but safe, adventure playground. For 2 to 4-year-olds, the miniature village has tiny huts to hide in and a wooden railway. And in one of Germany’s largest butterfly houses, children love getting close to 80 species of exotic butterflies. Good for 2 adults and their children under 15, the Family Ticket (41 EUR) represents excellent value. Furthermore, kids under the age of 12 are free.

Open year-round
