ATLANTA (April 6, 2015) -- Spelman College will host its third annual Wellness Revolution 5K Run/Walk Saturday, April 11, 2015, as part of the College’s 134th Founders Day activities. The run/walk is in keeping with the College’s ongoing wellness initiative, which aims to have a direct impact on lowering the percentage of Black women who face serious health challenges. The initiative’s goal is to also empower and educate Spelman women and the public on the value and components of lifelong wellness.

The run/walk (3.1 miles) will begin with opening remarks by Spelman President Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, followed by a fun, active warm-up led by Spelman alumna and celebrity lifestylist AJ Johnson. Runners and walkers, alike, will start at Spelman, run or walk through parts of the Atlanta University Center and end back at Spelman. As a wrap up to the day’s festivities, there will be post run/walk activities and closing remarks by Dr. Tatum and Johnson. Vendors will be on-site to provide information related to health and wellness.

New to this year’s 5K Run/Walk is electronic chip timing provided by Orion Racing. Registered participants will be provided chip timing to ensure accurate and fast results. As soon as runners and walkers cross the finish line, their finish time will be displayed on a flat screen TV for viewing by all attendees. Each participant will also receive an email with his/her individual timing stats. After the race is over, participants can visit Orion’s website for full race results.

Online registration for the Wellness Revolution 5K Run/Walk is available through April 9. Participants can also register on-site April 11.
