Stewart expands with 3 axis Co-ordinate Measuring Machine

Stewart, the UK manufacturer and market leader in rotational and injection moulded products, continues to improve and expand its manufacturing capabilities with plans to install a 3 axis Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).

As a global player in the manufacturing sector, Stewart has experienced an increase in demand for their high quality products and premium technical manufacturing services: Richard Butler, CEO of Stewart says, “The installation of the CMM will match Stewart’s new growth, revolutionise our manufacturing process and increase our profitability. The machine is of an extremely powerful standard, and our technical experts look forward to working with this great piece of equipment, furthering our expertise within the technical division.”

The CMM’s addition will improve the production process and customer service. Simon Turner, Technical Sales Manager at Stewart, highlights the benefits: “The CMM will enable us to validate clients’ components and mouldings quickly and accurately to their specifications. In effect, this reduces time spent on approving parts and bringing mouldings into production.”

The CMM is a bridge design measuring machine with a touch trigger probe system, and has accurately hand-lapped Granite Table guide-ways. The Bridge and Column Axes guide-way are high precision granite, providing optimal long-term stability. Also with high accuracy digital measuring scales on each axis, the CMM showcases the best of modern measuring technology. The Machine Frame Height is approx. 1900mm tall + 150mm for the skate height.

Stewart will also benefit from other features in the package:

  • CMM Controller Hardware: includes Supply Servo Assist 3 Axis Controller for effortless motion control via Joysticks, and an Operator Desk Unit
  • Probe accessories: includes Renishaw Styli Kits
  • CMM Software, PC-DMIS: the world’s leading metrology software, it is used across the globe by companies of every size, and is the ‘bench-mark’ for the measurement industry of which others follow

As manufacturers, Stewart understands the importance of selecting a trusted supplier of CMMs: Status Metrology Solutions have over 30 years of experience in CMMs and an excellent reputation for reliability. Richard Butler says, “I was more than confident in choosing Status Metrology Solutions – they are highly qualified experts, and I have no doubt that this will come across in the performance of the CMM.”

The 3 axis Co-ordinate Measuring Machine will hugely enhance the manufacturing capacity of Stewart’s 178,000 sq ft facility in Banbury. This addition will compliment Stewart’s several Engle 300 machines and an Engle 700 machine, giving large machine capacity and fast manufacturing cycles.
