Rostelecom selects TeliaSonera International Carrier to manage a strategic new link between Russia and Europe
Rostelecom, Russia’s leading long distance operator has selected TeliaSonera International Carrier to operate and manage its new backbone network between Kingisepp, Russia and Stockholm, Sweden. The next-generation managed optical network provides connectivity between the cable landing points of the Baltic Cable System, Kingisepp and Kotka, implemented over TeliaSonera International Carrier’s wholly-owned fiber-optic infrastructure to Stockholm, Sweden. The platform, with an initial 600 Gbps capacity is scalable up to 3.2 Tbps and provides a guaranteed service life of least 10 years.
It will complement Rostelecom’s existing infrastructure to Europe and provide a further diverse route from Russia to Stockholm for its TEA Network (Transit Europe Asia) service.
Pavel Zaitsev, VP and Commercial Director, Rostelecom says, “The new link managed by TeliaSonera International Carrier will, first of all, improve reliability of the signal delivery across Rostelecom’s network along the route to Stockholm. It also enables us cost-efficiently and on a long-term basis to make fast upgrades to route growing traffic volumes. This is particularly vital given Rostelecom ambitious plans to develop the Europe-Asia Transit service and accommodate steady growth in IP traffic between Russia and Europe. Additionally, this is a very beneficial engineering solution to us, as it is fully integrated with Rostelecom’s existing network infrastructure.”
Erik Hallberg, President of TeliaSonera International Carrier states “It is vital to enhance network connectivity to ensure high quality transit of traffic between Europe and Asia. We appreciate very much that Rostelecom selected TeliaSonera International Carrier as its partner to manage the capacity delivered in this project. I know both parties recognize this as a key milestone in the strategic relationship between our companies”.
